The Atlanta Association of Insurance Professionals (AAIP) was established as a value added proposition to the insurance industry. The ability to provide a venue, as well as a gateway, for the multicultural insurance professional was the initial intent and continues as the purpose of the organization to this day. The value propositions of providing professional development, mentoring, community outreach and scholarship through a gathering of insurance professionals are accomplished with each monthly meeting.When the organization was established in 1988, the topic of diversity was not discussed very often in the insurance industry. The founding professionals of AAIP were able to address that conversation and allow a venue for continued discussion and action. AAIP is at the forefront of providing diversity initiatives and opportunities for the industry. AAIP is an affiliate member of the National African American Insurance Association (NAAIA). This affiliation allows a national scope of involvement for any industry organization that embraces diversity. What this means to the insurance industry is that the value propositions, the embrace of diversity, and the development of its members allows AAIP to be your bridge to greater diverse and multicultural opportunities. What this means to the individual professional is that by joining our organization, you will have the opportunity to grow professionally and as you develop with us, provide that return to your organization.Please join us and follow us as we continue to provide the venue for opportunity and growth. About Us
The Atlanta Association of Insurance Professionals (AAIP) was created to provide an organization where insurance professionals could network and aid in the professional growth of its members. In the spring of 1988, Otis Sander, George Miller, Carl Handy and Ruth Elmore established the organization.Denise Perkins was elected as the first president, and the organization began its formative years organizing and aggressively seeking members. In the years that followed, AAIP evolved and established itself in the insurance industry and Atlanta community. Presently, the Atlanta Association of Insurance Professionals provides continuing education seminars; internal and external workshops on legal, insurance and financial issues; information regarding employment opportunities in the industry; and assistance in obtaining insurance designations.Today, the membership includes agents, underwriters, brokers, claim adjusters, risk managers, financial planners, auditors, loss control engineers, attorneys, accountants, elected public officials and professional trainers. Many of the members hold professional designations including AAI, AIC, ALCM, ARM, CCLA, CFP, ChFC, CIC, CLU, CPCU, JD, LUTCF and SCLA.The Atlanta Association of Insurance Professionals began awarding scholarships in 1990. At that time, the scholarships were given to Atlanta area college students. Presently, AAIP awards scholarships to high school and college students in the metropolitan Atlanta area. The scholarships reward deserving young people for academic excellence and community service. The Annual T.M. Alexander Golf Tournament is a primary source of funding for the scholarship program. An additional function that AAIP serves is with Georgia InVest, which allows a partnership for introducing the insurance industry through various levels of the educational system. This partnership has members providing mentorship and education in local high schools and colleges/universities.Since the spring of 1988, the Atlanta Association of Insurance Professionals has flourished. We have held annual days at the State Capitol, golf tournaments, family outings, retreats, membership campaigns, seminars and workshops, and we provide a guest speaker at monthly meetings. AAIP entered into partnership with the National African American Insurance Association (NAAIA), which allowed a national venue for the organization. AAIP functions as a local chapter of NAAIA with membership having reciprocity in both organizations.

Letter From The President
Welcome to 2012!!The Atlanta Association of Insurance Professionals (AAIP) is robustly striding into 2012. I say this because 2011 proved that it was seemingly a perfect storm for the insurance industry. A soft market, tough economic conditions from a global perspective and a calamitous weather year, all combined to indicate that the truly focused will strive in 2012.AAIP is projected to grow in 2012. That growth will be demonstrated in a number of ways. We expect our membership to more than triple in 2012. That growth in membership will exhibit itself by the amount of cultural penetration that we are able to offer our corporate partners. What that means to our community is the ability to provide professional growth, community outreach, enhanced partnerships as well as offer scholarships to deserving students.We are more than a networking organization. We have found that great relationships have been built through the years. These relationships have been built because we understand that we are all business people and business must go on. The founders of AAIP saw an opportunity to give back on a number of fronts to the industry, to the community and to the professionals that make up AAIP. We make a contribution to each of these fronts each time we come together because of the strengthened relationships that happen. Each time we award scholarships or engage in a Georgia INVEST partnership event, we are providing a valuable resource for the longer term benefit of the industry.We will focus on building relationships in 2012. Our meetings will continue to be a venue where cultures converge and relationships are forged. If you are an agent, financial services professional or a carrier person, this is the venue where you will need to be. Letter From The President
2011 was a great platform!!2011 was the preface for a great 2012. Allow me to outline a few of the great things that transpired in 2011:Professional Development: * Featured speakers/industry experts* Continuing Education SeminarsMentorship/ Community Involvement: * Continued participation with InVEST program showcasing the industry to high school and college students.* Awarded two TM Alexander ScholarshipsNew Media/Technology:* Social Media platform created to communicate with involved and prospective industry professionals* Redesigned Website with links to Face Book, Twitter and LinkedInCommunity Support: * Food Drive and Toys for TotsWe also were able to forge relationships that will carry the organization forward in 2012 and beyond. We attended the 2011 NAAIA convention in Miami, where we were able to contribute greatly at the national level by providing feedback on the great partnerships built here in Atlanta.This is admittedly a very brief synopsis of a great year that has drawn to a close. The momentous part of it all is that we will roar into 2012 with the same zeal, energy and spirit to move on to greater achievements. On behalf of the Executive Committee and the membership of AAIP, we bid farewell to 2011. We enter into 2012 focused as an organization intent upon service to its constituency. Meeting Recap

"The meeting last night was excellent. CPT Bee spoke about his life story and how things developed due to significant events in his life. The story transcended all industries and were just simple life lessons that could be applied any where. He talked about how he had to determine which groups would influence his life more, those that wanted to beat him up because he was different ( a bi-racial kid in a segregated city in the 40’s and 50’s) or those that accepted him as he was."

" He talked about how an injury changed the course of his life and how he tried to fit the mold that would get him most accepted, which in his early career was being a macho fighter pilot. He went further to talk about how he would engage cab patrons with his story of how he came to be a cab driver from his lofty position as an airline pilot."

" Just the tone and type of story was very uplifting and very directional. The overall meeting was buzzing with excitement, the food was great, the variety of professional (there were bankers, agents, senior executives, entry level, etc.), something for everyone. The two senior executives from Travelers and Metlife gave very good information from their vantage points. I will definitely go back to the next meeting!!"
